Manual Handling: Transfer to and from wheelchair and front seat of a car Work Instruction

Step by Step Instructions

1. Park car on the level ground with brakes on.
2. Place wheelchair on passenger’s side, facing the front car and get the wheelchair as close to the front seat as possible.
3. Lock wheelchair brake, raise footrests and place feet flat on the ground, across hips forward.
4. Come to standing by leaning forward at the waist and pushing with arm.
5. Pivot so that the back is turned toward the seat.
6. Place uninvolved hand on any non-movable part of the car.
7. Sit down slowly on the front seat.
8. Flex head to avoid hitting it on the top of the car.
9. Lift legs into the car
10. Fasten seatbelt.

Reverse the procedure to go from car to wheelchair.
